Up stream Urubu river (Rio Urubu)
This tour makes a big difference, because it’s done 200 km North East of Manaus into the decent Amazon rainforest at the Urubu river area. This river has dark water like the Rio Negro, resulting from organic acids released by the decomposition of organic matters which kills bacteria and other parasites in the water and the lack of terrestrial sediments which makes it safe for swimming, and the area has far less mosquitoes. The Urubu river starts in Presidente Figueiredo and runs for many km’s before reaching the Amazon River. Via the Urubu river we travel up stream by motorized canoe to our ecological lodge on the riverside, just behind the lodge the jungle starts. The canopy tower has a fantastic view over the jungle and river. You can enjoy this view in relaxing chairs at the top floor of the tower. It’s possible to sleep in one of the comfortable rooms of the tower with your privet balcony. Our lodge has privet rooms with toilet and shower.
The lodge has a bungalow for guests who prefer to stay in hammocks, with lockers to put your belongings and shared toilets and showers. The veranda of the bungalow has a river view. Just using a hammock on the veranda, to enjoy the view, see the stars at night and listen to the sounds of the nature is also an opportunity. The river is good for swimming in this nice warm water. All the meals are included and prepared by a specialized native cook, based on regional traditions and local dishes. Our native guides (all English speaking and a bit of Spanish and French) are enthusiastic to show you what this beautiful place has to offer. You will experience the “caboclos” way of living! (= native people of the region)
